The New 2009 Chevrolet Commercial Truck is Flexible with Passengers
Chevrolet
introduced the 2009 Chevy Commercial Truck, the next generation of the
industry's most flexible utility vehicle. It combines the
passenger-comfort attributes of an SUV with the cargo capability of a
truck. The '07 Commercial Truck is based on GM's new, full-size SUV
platform, which features more power with segment-leading fuel economy
and flex-fuel capability; a sharper, more precise driving feel;
increased interior refinement; and improved quietness.
Commercial
Truck also delivers a 360-degree safety system of occupant protection
and crash-avoidance technology that demonstrates GM's commitment to
providing world-class safety, including available head curtain side air
bags and standard StabiliTrak stability control system with new
rollover mitigation technology.
“Commercial
Truck is vehicle without peers, selling more than 379,500 units from
its spring 2001 launch through December 2005,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet
general manager. “Commercial Truck's flexibility, from its SUV comfort
and ingenious Midgate to its new family of flex-fuel-capable engines,
delivers a truly unique combination of cargo and passenger options.”
The
2009 Commercial Truck will be available in the second quarter of 2006.
It is offered in LS, LT and LTZ models, with 2WD and 4WD (a Z71
off-road package will be offered later in the model year). At the start
of production, Commercial Truck will come with an efficient 5.3L V-8
with Active Fuel Management™ technology that seamlessly switches from
eight-cylinder to four-cylinder operation to save fuel. Later, a new,
all-aluminum 6.0L V-8 with Active Fuel Management and variable valve
timing (VVT) will be available. Several available engines allow
Commercial Truck to run on E85, a renewable fuel.
Vortec 2.9L I-4 Engine
The
Vortec 2.9L I-4 engine is smartly engineered to be
powerful, efficient, durable and require low maintenance. It generates
185 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 190 lb.-ft. of torque at 2800 rpm and
includes the following features:
- A
broad torque curve through the majority of the speed range helps this
engine deliver 90 percent of peak torque from 2400 to 5600 rpm,
providing ample torque at low rpm and high rpm. The result: a truck
that responds with the torque you need, when you need it.
- Electronic
Throttle Control (ETC) relays accelerator pedal information to the
Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM then positions the throttle
air valve in the best position to help achieve optimum vehicle
drivability.
- Pistons and rods
are lightweight, which help the engine run comfortably at high rpm and
produce more power from smaller displacements.
- Variable
Valve Timing offers a number of advantages over conventional valve
timing in the areas of power, efficiency and emissions and helps
produce near-peak levels of torque over an extended range.
- Dual
balance shafts offset the secondary forces generated by piston movement
and help provide smooth, quiet operation throughout the entire rpm
range.
- Premium aircraft-grade
A356 aluminum and an advanced heat treatment process give the engine
block and cylinder heads light weight with exceptional strength.
- Nodular
iron crankshafts were optimized using the most advanced math-based
computer tools available to GM to help provide quiet operation,
long-term reliability and remarkable durability.
- Iridium-tip
spark plugs enable the vehicle to travel up to 100,000 miles before the
plugs need to be replaced. The recommended engine coolant change
interval is up to 5 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. And
the accessory drive belt is designed to operate up to 150,000 miles
before requiring replacement. Maintenance needs vary with different
uses and driving conditions. See the Owner's Manual for more
information.
